Are the name of Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne familiar to you? These names are the lads behind the best-selling single “What Makes You Beautiful” and the world’s biggest British-Irish boyband of today, One Direction that invaded United Kingdom, given how well they took over the United States – and other countries – so far. But for One Direction, their rise to stardom almost looked like a flash of blur.

One Direction in the X Factor 2010

Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson have expressed their passion for music when they auditioned The X Factor Season 7 last 2010. This was actually Liam’s second audition. His first try was last 2008 when he was still at a tender age of 14, but he didn’t get through the Bootcamp Stage. While all of them perfectly got through their auditions, it seemed that they also went through Liam’s path – they didn’t get past through Bootcamp, and got eliminated from the Boy’s category.

But a serious twist of fate turned the boys’ luck around: they got called out backstage after being removed, and the guest celebrity Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls told the boys are just too good to let go and decided that they are going to be teamed up and be in the Group category.

Putting the boys back on track went great as they take over the stage. The name “One Direction” was came up because, as Harry said, they all just want to do the same thing – to sing. Nobody got a clue that they would be one of the biggest pop band but they effortlessly grabbed the Judges’ votes and the heart of the crowd with their fresh versions of some songs like Rihanna’s “Only Girl in the World,” Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life would suck without you.” and even Bonnie Tyler’s classic “Total Eclipse of the Heart”.

Hopes were as high as their angelic voices that One Direction would be the first group to win The X Factor. After performing Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” during the finals, pop star and judge Danii Minogue predicted that “they would go on to sell records and be the next big thing.” Despite the weeks of their amazing performances, the group ended up in third place over all. They may have lost the reality show, but that doesn’t mean they have to kiss and wave your dreams goodbye.

One Direction, The X Factor Live Tour

After the show, the group’s former mentor, Simon Cowell, signed them up to his Syco Records and went on The X Factor Live Tour. But that isn’t their biggest success yet. The most massive change came to their lives is when they came in the form of their debut single, “What Makes You Beautiful” which was released in September 2011. Fans and critics loved the song, smashed the UK charts and in the US. Even their single “Gotta Be You” went number three on the charts.

If 2011 was a big year for the boys, 2012 is a lot bigger. Their third single “One Thing” came out in January 2012; it came in third in Top Ten Single charts. Their single “What Makes You Beautiful” became an entry in the BRIT Awards and won the “Best British Single” Award. They performed their single during the 2012 Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards., and also guest-starred in Nickelodeon’s iCarly with the episode “iGo One Direction.” in 2012. They received their first MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards) 2012 moonmen with the single as their winning entry, and got their titles as the “Best New Artist” “Most Share-Worthy Video” and “Best Pop Video”. The boys also performed in the iTunes Festival 2012. The boys’ first album, “Up All Night” crashed pop records for being the most fast-selling album in the history that is released on March 2012.

One Direction. Take Me Home

In the present time, the boys are now working their sophomore album, “Take Me Home” which will be released in November 2012. As of today, their newest single “Live While we’re Young” is the first music video that has reached to 9 million views within 24 hours after the official release in YouTube and reached 30 million views after one week. The single is currently peeking its way to overrun the charts.

Other than their successive achievements from their rise and falls so far, One Direction is completely capable for filling the gaps in the music industry for boybands and proved that boybands have still massive appeal. The band is likely to continue making good music that will definitely keep fans hooked, entertained and devoted that seems to be all they need to ensure their trip to success won’t be stopping anytime soon.
